The Key of Destruction is required to open the first red portals in the Pandemonium Event and can only be found from certain boss monsters, and only on Hell difficulty. Get the Key of Terror from The Countess, the Key of Hate from The Summoner, and the Key of Destruction from Nihlathak. If an internal link led you here, you may wish to change the link to point directly to the intended article. The Key of Terror is a quest item and may be used for: The Pandemonium Event in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The Infernal Machine in Diablo III. The Key of terror, hate and destruction are all found by the following mini bosses: The countess (hell), The Summoner (hell), and Nihlathak (hell), in that order. Get all three keys, fuse them in.
The Pandemonium Event is a multi-stage bonus quest added in v1.11. This quest can only be accomplished on the Battle.net realms, in Hell difficulty.

Terror drops from The Countess, Hate from The Summoner, and Destruction from Nithilak. When these three keys are combined together in a hoadric cube in act 5 hell you will open a portal to a boss.

Introduction[edit]
The Pandemonium event can only be undertaken on the Battle.net realms, and is not functional in Single Player or LAN games. This quest culminates with a massive battle against souped up versions of Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto, along with the minions they summon, in a new version of the town Tristram. Imac video editing software free download. This struggle is by far the most difficult one in the game, and is the only way to obtain the Hellfire Torchunique large charm.
There are several steps you must complete in order to reach Uber Tristram.
Keys[edit]
The first step is to gather the three keys required to open the first of the red portals. The Keys of Hate, Terror, and Destruction are required, and can only be found from certain boss monsters, and only on Hell difficulty. Get the Key of Terror from The Countess, the key of Hate from The Summoner, and the Key of Destruction from Nihlathak. It's a good idea to have 3 of each key before beginning the second stage of the Pandemonium Event, so you can do all three of the special areas in the same game. (The same area will not repeat in the same game, so you'll have all 3 ingredients for Uber Tristram.)
The keys look identical, and can only be discerned between by hovering on them to see their name.
Diablo 2 Key Of Terror Single Player
Key of Terror[edit]
These are dropped by The Countess, who is located on the fifth level of the Forgotten Tower in the Black Marsh, Act One. She is commonly run for her rune drops, and will drop a Key of Terror about 8% of the time she dies on Hell difficulty.
Key of Hate[edit]
The Summoner drops this one. He's found at the end of one of the four points of the Arcane Sanctuary, in Act Two. He will only drop a Key of Hate on Hell difficulty, and even then only every few games.
Key of Destruction[edit]
Nihlathak sometimes drops this key, but only on Hell difficulty. He's found at one end of the four-pointed Halls of Vaught, the lowest of the three Halls levels reached through Anya's portal in Harrogath, in Act Five.
Opening the Red Portals[edit]
Once you have the keys, stand in Harrogath, on Hell difficulty, place one of each in your Horadric Cube and convert them. A red portal will open to one of three locations; the Matron's Den, the Forgotten Sands, or the Furnace of Pain. Which portal opens first is random, but if you do all three in the same game you will not get the same one twice. For this reason it's recommended that you have 9 keys to begin with, 3 of each type, so you can do them all in the same game. It's also recommended that you stand in different places so you'll spread out the three portals, so they don't overlap and make selecting the correct one 'uber difficult'. You'll be adding a 4th portal once you've completed these three, to Uber Tristram, so save room.
The Matron's Den[edit]
This level is reminiscent of the Forgotten Tower in layout. Within it you will find Lilith, sometimes referred to as 'Uber Andariel.' She looks just like Andariel, the act one quest boss, and uses her same attacks, but to much more effect. Her poison spray is especially dangerous, and characters will want to gear up with heavy poison resistance and some poison antidotes as well.
Lilith drops Diablo's Horn, one of the three items required to open a portal to Uber Tristram.
The Forgotten Sands[edit]
This level is identical to the Canyon of the Magi, the last waypoint of Act Two. Here you will find Uber Duriel roaming free. He's a bigger, nastier version of Duriel, the Act Two boss, and is equipped with the same Holy Freeze Aura and other attacks.
Uber Duriel drops Baal's Eye, one of the three items required to open a portal to Uber Tristram.
The Furnace of Pain[edit]
The third red portal area is the Furnace of Pain, an area identical to the three 'Pit' areas reached from the red portals found in the surface areas of Act Five. Here you will find Uber Izual, a beefed up version of the SuperUnique quest monster Izual, found in the Plains of Despair in Act Four.
Uber Izual can teleport, and often spawns with some very nasty minions. He drops Mephisto's Brain, one of the three items required to open a portal to Uber Tristram.
Uber Tristram[edit]
To create a red portal to Uber Tristram, place Diablo's Horn, Baal's Eye, and Mephisto's Brain in the Horadric Cube, and transmute them while standing in Harrogath in a Hell difficulty game. A red portal will open, the fourth in that area if you've done them all in the same game. It takes you to Uber Tristram, where the real fun begins.
Uber Tristram has the same layout as regular Tristram, though the entry portal appears towards the north of town, rather than in the far eastern corner. Scattered through the center of town are Uber Mephisto, Uber Baal, and Pandemonium Diablo (so named because Uber Diablo was already used in another bonus quest). They are massively harder than their usual act boss selves, boosted by new abilities and much higher hit points, defense, damage, and more. They are also able to summon minions at regular intervals, further complicating things for intrepid adventurers.
Uber Baal[edit]
He possesses all of regular Baal's attacks and more, including Mana Rift, Hoarfrost, Incineration Nova, and more. Check the Uber Baal page for more details. He can also teleport and duplicate himself.

Pandemonium Diablo[edit]
He is much stronger and faster than regular Diablo, and uses his Bone Prison and Firestorm skills to lethal effect. He can cast Armageddon, the Druid skill, raining fire down on all his attackers, and frequently summons a variety of nasty monster minions during the battle. See the Pandemonium Diablo page for more details and full stats.
Note that this is not Uber Diablo, who spawns as part of another bonus quest and drops the Annihilus Charm.
Uber Mephisto[edit]
Uber Mephisto is a deadlier version of himself. He comes with a very high level Conviction Aura which will reduce maxed resistances to negative values, and a variety of elemental attacks including Blizzard and Lightning. His resistances are very high as well, and he regularly spawns elemental minions such as Skeleton Mages and Archers.
Rewards[edit]
The principle reward for this mission is the Hellfire Torch, a unique large charm that can only be obtained from this quest. Like the other unique charms, characters can only hold one of each at a time, so you'll want to bring in a character who does not have one to pick up the prize.
- Hellfire Torch unique large charm
- +10-20 To All Attributes
- All Resistances +10-20
- +3 to random character class skills
- 25% Chance To Cast level 10 Firestorm On Striking
- Level 30 Hydra (10 charges)
- +8 to light radius
- Required Level: 75
Besides the items, it's possible to gain a tremendous amount of experience in Uber Tristram, by killing the various minions the uber bosses spawn. Players have found that this is a great way to power level lower level characters. These characters are of no use in the battle and must stay well out of the way or risk instant death, but by being in the area and in the party, they will enjoy enormous shared experience bonuses. Reports of leveling from 1 to 80 or even 90 in a couple of hours spent in this area are not uncommon. This exploit requires a number of very powerful characters doing the tanking and killing, but with teamwork it's quite possible.
More details on the so called 'Tristram glitch' can be found in forum threads like this one. Legacy family tree torrent.
Pandemonium Event Tips[edit]
- Be sure the game is up long enough, 5-10 minutes, to become permanent. Be sure you know the game name/password so you can rejoin if you get disconnected, or if you die to retrieve your corpse (which is hard since you can't make town portals in Uber Tristram).
- Spread out the red portals in Harrogath, for easier access.
- All the characters in the game must be in Act Five.
- It is not necessary to kill regular Baal before undertaking the Pandemonium Event.

The Pandemonium Event is a Battle.net only event introduced in Patch 1.11 of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction that is entirely optional but still fun to complete and famous for being the only source of the unique Large Charm, the Hellfire Torch.
Unlike the other Battle.net only quest, the Uber Diablo, the Pandemonium Event is quite a bit more complex and has a lot more fights with some very special super uniques specially created for the quest.
- 2The Keys and Organs
Lore
Considering that the Pandemonium Event is a Battle.net only quest and is not available in the Single player or even open Battle.net games, it cannot be said to be a part of official lore. It can be said that it was created only to give high-level characters something to do.
The Keys and Organs
The initiation of the quest involves the collection of the three separate Organs that will open the portal to Chaos Tristram when transmuted in the Horadric Cube. These Organs, in turn, each require the collection of three Keys to open a portal which itself contains one Organ. Nine total keys, three of each type, are thus the minimum required to access Chaos Tristam.
The Keys
The Keys are required to open the three portals that will help you collect the Organs. There are three different keys, and to open any one of the minor portals, a complete set of three different keys are required. This means that the player will have to collect, in all, three keys of each type, which totals to nine keys.
To get the keys, the player has to kill one of the agents of the Prime Evils on the mortal plane. They are:
- The Summoner (Mephisto)
- The Countess (Diablo)
- Nihlathak (Baal)
They need to be killed in a Hell difficulty game in which they have a chance to drop the Keys of Hate, Terror and Destruction respectively along with their normal drop. The dropping of keys is quite rare, sometimes dropping only one in 10-15 runs. You can still run any one of them and continue to collect only one type of key. It is advisable to only run them for only three keys that are required for quest completion.
The Organs
D2 Keys Locations
Once you have a complete set of three different Keys, head to Act V, Harrogath. Put them in the Horadric Cube and then transmute them. In a way, it is very similar to the Secret Cow Level, you will create a portal teleporting you to a place where you would have to fight one of either:
- Uber Duriel in the Forgotten Sands
- Uber Izual in the Furnace of Pain
- Lilith in the Matron's Den
They will give you, when defeated, Baal's Eye, Mephisto's Brain, and Diablo's Horn respectively, the Organs that will help you create the portal to Chaos Tristram.
It is highly recommended that you collect all nine required Keys and open all the three Portals within the same game. If they are opened in separate games, there is a chance that the same portal is opened leading to a waste of three different Keys. Of course, the organs are still valuable, leaving them open to be traded for others.
Uber Tristram
Once you have all three Organs, you can to go back to Harrogath again and put them into the Horadric Cube and transmute them. You will create the portal to Uber Tristram.
Uber Tristram has the same base structure as the regular Tristram but has a pack-load of hellish monsters, like the rare and powerful Balrogs. There are also a variety of unique monsters, champions and their minions along with the masters of the pack, the Uber Prime Evils themselves. The main objective when the player reaches Uber Tristram is to find and defeat Uber Mephisto, Uber Baal, and Pandemonium Diablo (because Uber Diablo already exists).
Über Mephisto has a level 20 Conviction Aura, which causes -125% to all of your resists, and summons Skeleton Mages and Archers everywhere, which can be challenging. Pandemonium Diablo is a 'tank' for Baal, meaning he takes the damage for him. He has tons of life and summons Pit Lords which are immune to everything but Physical damage. Über Baal is mostly the same as Hell mode Baal. He has a little more life and summons Ghoul Lords and Ghosts, which are both Physical Immune.
Once you kill them, the last boss to die will give you the Hellfire Torch, a Large Charm that gives +3 to any one of a certain class' skills, and random resistances and attributes, and the, as yet unusable, Standard of Heroes. The Standard of Heroes is a symbol that shows that you have completed this quest successfully and, unfortunately, for the trouble to obtain it, does nothing else, for the moment.
The easiest way to kill all three Ubers, as they are called in game, is a Smiter, a paladin who uses the skill Smite. They are an easy build for players to create and use.
Smiters can use different types of equipment, depending on the ability to get said gear. For the most part, the gear consists of:Body Armor: Chains of Honor Rune Word or Enigma Rune WordWeapon: Grief Rune Word or Last Wish Rune WordBoots: Gore RiderGloves: Dracul's GraspBelt: Verdungo's Hearty Cord or String of EarsShield: Exile Rune Word or Herald of Zakarum Helm: Harlequin Crest, Crown of Ages or Delirium Rune WordRings: Raven Frost, Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band, and Carrion Wind Amulet: The Cat's Eye or Highlord's Wrath.
Smiters use Fanaticism and Smite as their right and left click skills, respectively. Usually, both are maxed out along with their synergies. Holy Shield is also maxed, with its synergies too.
A foolproof way to kill the Ubers is to run straight up when you enter the portal. Then go around to the left and go halfway down. Then SLOWLY walk towards the center of Tristram. This causes Diablo and Baal to charge at you. Run away to the left and top again so Mephisto doesn't instant kill you. Then work on Diablo first because his Pit Lords can kill you pretty quickly. Then Baal. Keep attacking until Dracul's Grasp's Life Tap is cast on them. It may take a few tries, but make sure you make your game permanent, so if you die, you can save and exit and come back. After the two easist are dead, Mephisto is left. He is easily the hardest monster in the entire game.
There are a few different ways to kill him. Depending on your skill as a player, the speed of your computer, and the ability of your build. The first way to kill him is to just charge in and attack like crazy. If life tap isn't cast within the first 10-15 seconds, you will die and have to start over again. The second way to kill him is to trigger him, then run into a building AWAY from the portal, and let him follow you into it and get stuck. Then either teleport out if your wearing Enigma, or die, or save and exit. Then after your back in the game, run straight to the house and attack him, since he is kept away from his minions his Conviction aura is less of a threat from the mage skeletons. But this may also take a few tries. Good luck, and have fun.
